Tranzor Z and other memories

There was one cartoon (actually, anime, but back when I was a kid, I called this a cartoon) that consisted of those giant robots much like in Pacific Rim, but it wasn’t Voltron. My show had a giant woman robot who shot missiles out of her boobs. Over the years I’ve wondered what this show was called and have found, and lost, the name again. Once and for all, I will record this anime down as Tranzor Z, which came on TV every day right after elementary school.

Tranzor Z was the American adaptation of Mazinger Z. I watched Tranzor Z until – I can’t really remember – either it was taken off TV or we got a new TV or… something. Maybe it became all reruns. I can’t remember when we got cable but it was sometime in the 80s (most likely the mid 80s) because I remember watching way too many horror films back then (Freddy Krueger?), and I used to fight with my sister over the remote control because she was watching Mr. Ed and My Friend Flicka obsessively. Other shows I remember are Pinwheel on Nickelodeon and another strange anime called Unico. Some really early shows I grew up on was Sesame Street and 3-2-1 Contact. The theme song for 3-2-1 Contact is etched into my childhood for all eternity.

But Tranzor Z, I will never forget you!
